Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), a national flag carrier will be receiving approval to conduct flights between Kathmandu-Japan within 40days. Santosh Pandey, newly appointed Country Manager of NAC at Japan stated that the filing agent has been appointed and will receive permission within 40 days.
“All the processes for ground handling have been completed. Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is yet to be signed. The catering management is also in process whereas maintenance and engineering has been set” Pandey said. He said that the discussion has been started for catering, hotels and fuels. Sailesh Kansakar, Country Manager of NAC at China stated that the corporation has completed 80 per cent work for conducting flights at China. He informed that NAC has begun bank insurance process for local registration for Guangzhou flight.
According to Kansakar, the ground handling and fueling work will be done within 2 weeks. Though the ground handling work may complete in short time, the fueling would take a while to complete, he added. “There are a lot of public holidays in this duration. After a week, there is 12 days holiday on the occasion of Chinese New Year, so it may take long time for completing all processes, Kansakar said. According to the corporation, NAC has assign maintenance and engineering work to Chinese engineering GEMCO Company. According to the NAC, it has already appointed Beijing Long way International Travel Service for General Sales Agent (GSA) for conducting flight to Guangzhou.
NAC will be operating flights to Guangzhou by its Airbus-330 and Airbus-320 aircraft. Currently, Chinese airlines like China Eastern, China Southern, Cathay Dragon, Air China, Tibet Airline and Sichuan Airlines operate to Nepal from China. Nepal Airlines does not operate to China presently, but has got approval to fly to Beijing, Shanghai, Lhasa, Guangzhou, Kunming, Chengdu and Xi’an whereas previously, NAC used to fly to Shanghai and was discontinued due to a lack of aircraft in 2008.
Recently, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari conducted official meeting with Mr. Luo to discuss on the various aspect of tourism sector as well as to add more flights between the 2 neighboring countries China and Nepal. Both Ministers also discussed on making Visit Nepal year 2020 successful and help Nepal for the program. The meeting can be expected to create a benchmark in Nepalese aviation as it could afford Nepal Airlines to fly to popular destinations of China historically.
