Overview

Located at the base of Phulchowki Mountain at the south east corner of Kathmandu City, Godavari Botanical Garden offers visitors a chance to stroll leisurely around the mainly open parkland habitat; home to several fast-flowing streams. It is surrounded by evergreen natural forests. The garden is spread at the area of 82 hectare.

More than 500 species of plants are found here. The peak flowering seasons is spring and autumn. Bloom ing of Rhododendron and a number of colorful flowers in the garden beds and the surrounding forests indicates the arrival of Spring season.

Godavari Spring
Another well worth a look is The Godavari Spring, found 200 metres from the Botanical Gardens’ main gate. This freshwater spring spouting ice-cold water from the Gadavari river is reputed to have been created when the Buddhist Mystic Padmasambhava struck a rock (in order to demonstrate that the ultimate truth is clear and will fulfill the people’s thirst). The Spring is a popular Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage site.
